St. Anne’s-Belfield’s girls tennis team’s depth carried the day for the Saints Tuesday night as STAB beat Covenant 7-2 with a sweep of the bottom four spots on the ladder.
Covenant’s Emily Dahnert and Corrinne Jenkins won in the top two singles slots, with Dahnert winning 8-2 over Neely Craig and Jennings winning 8-6 over STAB’s Elizabeth Kochard. But beyond that, STAB’s Caroline DiGiacomo, Leah Smyle, Adele Blanton and Katie Waters took control. DiGiacomo edged Covenant’s Ashley Lainhart at the No. 3 spot 9-7 in a hard fought battle and the Eagles’ Briana Boland made a push at No.5 before falling to Blanton 8-5, but STAB swept the final four spots and held a 4-2 lead headed into doubles.
In doubles, DiGiacomo and Craig teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 while Kochard and Blanton as well as Smyle and Walters also won 8-4 in their matches.
