Region Wrestling Roundup: Monroe’s Doshier’s region title leads contingent of local state qualifiers

While a number of regions held their wrestling championships last week, three regions that include local schools hosted championships this week and William Monroe, Goochland, Madison and Albemarle all picked up state qualifiers. 

 

In Region 3B, William Monroe’s Kaleb Doshier won the region championship at 152 pounds, and the Dragons’ seasoned vet didn’t waste any time doing it either. Doshier, who had a bye until the semifinals after a regular season record of 20-2, was on the mat for less than two minutes after pinning his semifinal opponent in 39 seconds and his finals opponent in 47 seconds. Doshier needed just 86 seconds of mat time to win his second-straight region title. 

 

Three other Dragons earned spots in the state tournament, with Connor Marcotte taking second at 220, Ethan Marcotte taking second at 285 and Garrett Ensor taking fourth at 113. Another trio of Dragons got on the podium, with Jason Lamb, Chris Taft and Joseph Willis all grabbing sixth place in their weight classes.

 

Goochland had six wrestlers earn state qualifying spots at Region 3B, with Grant Heidel at 145 and Reese Vincent at 160 finishing second place to lead the way. John Summitt ,Dawson Lewis, Patrick Harlow and Alex Rosenbaum finished third at 138, 152, 170 and 285 pounds respectively. 

 

Camron Hardy got on the podium at 106 in fifth and Ethan Winter got there in sixth at 182.

 

Region 2B

 

Evan Pack and Jose Martiniez led Madison County’s contingent of eight state qualifiers with a runner-up finish at 106 and 285 pounds respectively. Chris Dallas took third at 145, Silas Carter took third at 170 pounds, Shawn Curtis took third at 170 and Dylan Taylor took third at 182, with all punching their ticket to the state tournament.

 

Keith Gerhard took fourth at 160 and Matthew Sacra grabbed fourth at 195 pounds. 

 

Paul Hutcherson, Joel Bishop, Joshua Lamb, Hunter Dallas and Mariano Perez all got on the podium for the Mountaineers. 

 

Region 5D

 

In Region 5D, Albemarle’s Jasper Hopkins placed fourth to grab a state tournament berth at 182 pounds. The Patriots’ James Fugal also got on the podium in sixth in his weight class.
