Monticello has come up barely on the wrong side of the scoreboard in several key games this season, but Monday night with the Mustangs’ season on the line, Monticello took care of business.

The Mustangs beat Riverside 3-0 in the Conference 28/29 first round and advances to take on top-seeded James Monroe in the semifinals Wednesday.

“We came out on top tonight but had a bunch of things we need to tighten up moving forward,” said Monticello coach Katie Martin. “Despite such a tough battle ahead we are just looking to come out and play Mustang hockey as best we can on Wednesday.”

Natalie Gibson got the Mustangs on the board with 11:30 left in the first. Sarah Alberts extended Monticello’s lead to 2-0 with 23 minutes to play in the second half before Hannah Page tacked on the Mustangs’ third goal.
