Louisa girls track wins Conference 19 title, boys take third

Louisa County’s girls indoor track and field team rolled to a Conference 19 title Wednesday behind a dominant relay performance and a double individual title day from junior Taylor Robinson.

 

The Lions’ relays were particularly huge, with the 4×200 squad of Kiana Richardson, Robinson , Sariyah Kelley and Amari Quarles winning. The 4×400 team of Victoria Finn, Kelley, Quarles and Julia Ward. The 4×800 squad of Ward, Sarah Seay, Kaitlyn Mason and Katelyn Wilson took second.

 

Robinson ripped off wins in the 55-meter hurdles and 55-meter dash and the Lions flashed some serious depth in both those events too. Richardson finished second in the 55-meters while Brandy Brown took sixth. Then Aaliyah Clark and Kelley finished fourth and fifth in the hurdles.

 

Robinson also posted a fourth place in the long jump, an event that Brown won and Clark placed second in.

 

Quarles won the 300-meter dash to give the Lions another event title. A pack of Lions took second place in key spots too, with Julia Ward second in the 1000, freshman Sarah Seay finished as the runner up in the 3200, Celia Agee took second in the pole vault and Finn finished second in the high jump in addition to a third place finish in the 500.

 

Katelyn Wilson took fourth in the 1000 and third in the 1600. Richardson finished third in the 300-meter dash. Ikea Burkett took fourth in the shotput and Madison Vanpelt grabbed fifth.

 

To round out a strong day, Clark, Lydia Barbour and Brown went 5-6-7 respectively in the triple jump.

 

Louisa boys take third

 

The Louisa boys indoor squad finished third behind champion Chancellor and runnerup King George.

 

Louisa also had two individual champions. Raleigh Findley won the 1000 meters and Justice Anderson picked up a victory in the 1600. Anderson also finished third in the 3200. Josh Bishop was the runner-up in the 500 while Ricky Langhorne took fourth in the 55-meter hurdles.

 

The Lions’ 4×800 team of Findley, Nathaniel Whitby, Taylor Ward and Bishop won while the 4×200 and 4×400 squads both finished third.

 

Darius Smith took second in the high jump while Kobie Washington finished third. D.J. Braxton too third in the pole vault while Jacob Woodson finished fourth.

 

Both the girls and boys’ regional qualifiers advance to the Region 4A East championships.
