FUMA wrestling leads local performances in Blue Devil Invitational

Fork Union’s wrestling team took the runner-up spot Saturday while hosting the Blue Devil Invitational, leading a solid contingent of locals in the event.

 

Millbrook won the team title with 243 points, edging out the Blue Devils’ 228 points.

 

Woodberry Forest took fourth as a team, Fluvanna took seventh, Charlottesville finished eighth and Blue Ridge finished in a tie for 10th.

 

Aaron Taliaferro at 132 pounds, Colby O’Neil at 195 pounds and Javion Watson at 285 pounds led the way for the Blue Devils with individual titles. Christopher Carr at 106, Spencer Maloney at 152 and John Grisko at 145 pounds all took second for the Blue Devils while John Meheen at 170 and Lucas Yates at 113 each took third. Christian Beale at 126 pounds and Joshua Cosby at 160 pounds each finished fourth.

 

Woodberry Forest’s fourth place finish got a big boost from champions Will Thomas at 170 pounds and Davis Smith at 182 pounds. Sam Thomas and Mack Daniels each took runner-up spots at 126 and 160 pounds respectively. Rainey O’Malley took fourth for the Tigers.

 

Charlottesville got a pair of third place finishes from Stuart Applestein at 106 pounds and David Wiles at 138 pounds as well as two fourth place outings from Andrew Wiles at 113 pounds and Ben Yates at 182 pounds.

 

Ethan Vernatter led Fluvanna’s day with a runner-up finish at 172 pounds while Jariq Henson took third at 120. Shawn Metcalf and Tyler Stoy took fourth at 145 and 152 pounds respectively.

 

Blue Ridge’s Amon Johnson (285) and Miguel Serrano (132) each finished third.
