Early Assault: William Monroe boys blow past Madison County

With Troy Jones getting going offensively, William Monroe wrapped up a season sweep or archrival Madison County 59-43 Monday night.

Jones poured in 24 points on the night, knocking down five 3-pointers for the Dragons in a big-time effort from beyond the arc. Jones also attacked the basket, drawing enough fouls to go 7-for-10 from the charity stripe.

Franklin Lindsay also got going in a big way with a double double of 21 points and 10 rebounds while Logan Barbour dished out eight assists to go with five points.

The Dragons built a 35-14 lead at halftime to put the game largely out of reach early for Madison County, who got nine points each from Makainco Woodward and Khalid West. The Mountaineers surged in the fourth quarter because of solid foul shooting but couldn’t climb out of the early hole as Monroe had extended its lead to 54-24 at the start of the final frame.

The Dragons will host George Mason Tuesday night while Madison hosts Strasburg the same night.
