For years now, Clark Walker has been one of the guys behind the guy on the local prep basketball scene. At Miller, Walker worked under Scott Willard as an assistant basketball coach. He then served as an assistant to Travis Johnson and Brooks Berry at Covenant School.

Now he’ll be the guy behind Covenant’s entire athletic department as he takes over as the school’s athletic director, stepping in for Berry who is departing for the AD job at Fork Union Military Academy. The Atlanta native will also take over Berry’s role as the head boys basketball coach for the Eagles.

“With a background in sports management and his knowledge of the Charlottesville and Covenant community, Clark already has a strong foundation by which he can continue to grow Covenant Athletics in the years to come,” said Covenant headmaster George Sanker.

Walker was a UVa basketball graduate assistant and before that worked at Miller as an athletic administrator and coach. He’s got a master’s in Sports Business and Management with a concentration in coaching from VCU.

“I am truly humbled and thankful to have the opportunity to serve as Athletic Director,” says Walker. “Covenant has a strong tradition in both girls and boys athletics while building up student-athletes who pursue excellence in all areas. I am looking forward to helping Covenant Athletics continue to thrive in building strong men and women of faith, integrity, and courage through athletic competition and persistent teamwork and effort.”

Walker is the third athletic director for Covenant, following Doug Smethurst who gave way to Berry three years ago. Walker is a UVa graduate who currently works as a senior project and marketing manager for a national medical technology services firm. He starts at Covenant in July.
