Covenant baseball blows past Roanoke Catholic in VIC quarterfinals

Will Moore ripped a first inning home run to spark Covenant baseball to an early lead and a quartet of pitchers shut down Roanoke Catholic as the Eagles won 11-1 in the VIC quarterfinals.

 

Covenant led 3-0 after the first and got the bats going again in the fourth, scoring eight runs over the next three innings to end the game via run-rule.

 

Luke Burton and Tyler Mahone each went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Eagles and knocked in a pair of runs apiece. Jake Haney went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

 

Burton and Mason Mitchell each hit doubles and Mitchell also knocked in two runs.

 

On the mound, Tyler Mahone opened the game with two innings that included five stirkeouts. Jake Haney, Trent Miller and Luke Burton each struck out two in their stints. Combined the four hurlers scattered four hits and gave up just a single run and it was unearned.
