Western Albemarle’s girls indoor track team put together a dominant performance Tuesday at the Class 3 State Indoor track meet, with the Warriors ringing up 110 points to outpace runner-up Heritage-Lynchburg’s 80 points and snag another state title for a program that last won in 2019 and has now won four in the last five years and seven championships since 2003.

Charlottesville’s girls finished fourth as a team.

The Warriors got a big boost from Jenna Stutzman’s double dip championship in the 1000-meters and 1600-meters as the junior clocked in at 3:07.67 in the 1000 and to win by nearly two seconds and 5:20.07 to win by more than three seconds.

Meanwhile freshman Reese Mattern won the 300-meter dash and clocked a lightning quick 40.28, among the fastest times in the country by a freshman. Mattern also was the runner-up in the 55-meter dash for the Warriors.

Kate Ratcliffe also won the 3200-meter race with a time of 11:44.98.

With a relay title in the 4×800 squad of Ella Taylor, Jordan Stone, Hailey Hodson and Maeci Frank (who was also the runner-up in the 1000 behind Stutzman), and a second place in the 4×400 (Stone, Frank, Hodson, Abby Huemme) and third in the 4×200 (Huemme, Gabi Andres, Cat Domecq and Brooke Whittier), Western was in pretty good position to win the meet. From there, the depth for the Warriors takes over as Ratcliffe also took second in the 1600 and freshman Grace Cooke took fifth in the 3200.

Jordan Stone took fourth in the 500 while Hodson, a freshman, took eighth in that race. In the pole vault, the Warriors took fourth, fifth and sixth with Cierra Halloran, Megan Futty and Emma Blackman grabbing those three spots.

Charlottesville’s fourth place finish got a big boost from a third place finish in the 4×400 relay with Maddie Packer, Elizabeth Burns, Amalia Ventre and Lucia Hoskins teaming up for the performance. Packer also took third in the 300-meter race, third in the 55-meters and second in the long jump. Hoskins took third in the 500 meter race and Elizabeth Burns finished fifth in the triple jump for the Black Knights.

Fluvanna County’s girls placed third in the 4×800 relay with Emily Smeds, Evelyn DeMers, Summer Craig and Tallon Solga making up that quartet.

William Monroe’s Kiana Hatchett took seventh in the triple jump.
