The seniors came to play in Radford. Carrington Frazier gave her team the lead in the third inning. Kara Price provided a big insurance run in the fifth. With freshman Emily Seal and sophomore Logyn Estes combining for a 5-hitter, that was the difference as the Mountaineers advanced past Lebanon in the Group 2A semifinals.

With the Pioneers up 1-0 in the third, leadoff hitter Meadow Anderson reached on a bunt single. Two batters later, Frazier belted a 2-run homer to left field on a 1-1 pitch to give Madison a 2-1 advantage.

Lebanon answered with an error and an RBI single to ties things up at 2-2. But that would be it as the Madison defense came up big, earning putouts in 10 of the next 12 at bats including a big play at the plate in to end the inning with Emillee Russell hitting Anderson at the dish.

The Mountaineers took the lead with a 2-out rally in the fifth when Frazier reached on a single. Then Estes delivered an RBI double to make it 3-2. In the next at bat Price reached on an error to make it 4-2.

On the day, Frazier was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Price was also 2-for-3. Anderson, Estes and Seale were all 1-for-3. Seal gave up just three hits and no earned runs in her three innings pitched. Estes finished the job and gave up just two hits. Neither pitcher walked a batter.

Madison faces Richlands tomorrow in Radford for the Group 2A championship. It’s the first title game appearance since a 3-1 loss to Honaker in 2013 when Frazier and Price were in eighth grade.
