Avenged: Covenant atones for regular season loss to Blue Ridge with VIC semis win

Covenant’s boys soccer team squared off with Blue Ridge earlier this season and fell by a single goal to the Barons.

Even at that time it seemed likely that the Eagles would get another shot at Blue Ridge in the VIC tournament, and that opportunity arrived Thursday in the VIC semifinals.

Covenant was ready.

The No. 3-seeded Eagles shut out the No. 2 Barons, beating Blue Ridge 3-0 to advance to the conference title game.

I am most proud of the shoutout,” said Covenant coach Bryan Vebrugge. “We played our most complete game when it mattered most, in the conference tournament. I am very proud of the way this team is putting all the pieces together at the right time.”

The Eagles will face top-seeded North Cross in the VIC championship game Saturday morning.
