Woodberry wins team golf title, STAB’s Woodrow wins individual crown

Woodberry Forest’s golf team took home the VISAA state team championship Monday at Meadowbrook County Club in Richmond, narrowly edging St. Anne’s-Belfield on a tiebreaker for the win. It’s the Tigers’ third VISAA golf title in the last five years.

The Tigers and Saints each finished with a 296 as a team, with the tiebreaker being the squad’s fifth counting score serving as the tiebreaker — Woodson Smith’s 79 for the Tigers versus an 84 for the Saints.

STAB’s Fitz Woodrow carded a five-under 67 and teammate Sam McNamara put together a 68 with Woodrow winning the individual title while McNamara was the state runner-up.

Senior Peter Knade led the way for the Tigers with a 72, tying for third place individually with Norfolk Academy’s Will Clark. Just behind him came Woodberry teammates Basil Boyd and Andrew Jacobs who each notched 73s to tie for fifth. Bo Pettigrew’s 78 and Smith’s 79 rounded out the team scoring for the Tigers.
