Darrik Martin was an accomplished passer when he entered Kiski Prep this season, having thrown for more than 2,000 yards at his school in California, and he looked the part in the first quarter against Woodberry Forest Saturday.
Martin exploded for 192 yards in the first quarter through the air, with big chunks of that total coming on 69-yard and 42-yard touchdown tosses.
But Woodberry made that early explosion irrelevant with 53 unanswered points in a 60-14 victory over Kiski Prep.
Woodberry’s balanced offense and three total defensive touchdowns keyed the 60-point output. Nine different Tigers scored touchdowns, with C.J. Prosise scoring twice, once on a 50-yard pass from Heys McMath and then later on a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Greer Martini and Wilson Craig scored the other two defensive touchdowns on fumble recoveries.
McMath went 9-for-12 for 182 yards. The junior notched three touchdowns and played essentially mistake free with zero interceptions. Greg McIntosh and Reid Swearingen each had a touchdown on passes from McMath.
Hunter Faulconer and Christian Asher powered the ground game, putting together nearly identical statistics lines as Asher had 11 carries for 52 yards and Faulconer had 10 touches for 53 yards. Faulconer scored a touchdown on a 20-yard spring in an explosive, 26-point third quarter by the Tigers. Jack Sewell also had a rushing touchdown during the third quarter burst that ended any fleeting hopes of a Kiski comeback.
Woodberry hosts St. Christopher’s next week at 2 p.m. Saturday.
