Woodberry football rallies to beat Bishop McNamara

With the schedule Woodberry Forest has taken on this year, the Tigers are going to be in for some serious battles.

Their first matchup didn’t disappoint. Woodberry rallied to beat Bishop McNamara 37-35, using a late touchdown pass and a key interception to seal it.

The Tigers got the ball back down 35-31 with a little more than three minutes to play after a pick six by Bishop McNamara put Woodberry in a hole. The offense responded, with quarterback Lindell Stone driving the Tigers 72 yards for the go-ahead score when he found Khalid Thomas for a touchdown with 30 seconds to play. After a missed PAT, the Tigers were up 37-35.

That’s when the defense got a chance to rise to the occasion and Korey Smith picked off a pass to seal the Tigers’ win, adding to a key fumble recovery he had earlier in the contest.

“That’s where all those meetings come through,” said Woodberry coach Clint Alexander, referring to the Tigers’ penchant for holding meetings that focus on responsibility and other facets of the program that he’s credited for bringing his teams closer over the years.

Stone finished with 395 yards through the air and four total touchdowns. Terrell Jana caught three of those touchdowns from Stone while Jameel Wilson gave the Tigers a score on the ground.
