Woodberry boys win Gus Lacy Track Classic

Woodberry Forest’s boys track and field team garnered 128.66 points to outdistance second-place Fork Union at the annual meet. Sophomore Michael Davenport helped lead the way with a win in the 200 and second-place finish in the 100, while teammate Eric Ways posted a victory in the 400 with a time of 49.69. Qawi Austin won the high jump for the Tigers while junior Brady Logan won the shot put.

Fork Union’s relay teams were impressive as the 4×100 and 4×400 teams both posted wins. Alex Lomong, who ran a leg of the 4×400 meter relay, led the way in the 800 (1:54.91), followed by his brother, Peter (1:56.31).

Another bright spot for Fork Union was Christian Davis, who won the 300-meter hurdles (40.87) and was second in the 110-meter hurdles.

Other highlights included Albemarle’s win in the 4×800 relay (Zach Gentry, Ben Gersbach, Camron Hatchett and Ryan Thomas); Karel Bruce of Fluvanna, who won the long jump; Louisa’s Raeshawn Bishop, who captured the top spot in the triple jump; and Western Albemarle’s Caleb Rider, who cleared 14-00 in the pole vault for the win.

On the girls side, Clover Hill took top honors with 98.75 points, followed by Midlothian. Fluvanna finished fifth overall, followed by Louisa, Western and Charlottesville.

Taylor Watkins completed the trifecta for the Black Knights for the second straight year, winning the 100, 200 and 400-meter dash.

Fluvanna senior Hannah Meador won the pole vault (12-04) for the fourth straight year at the event and was followed by a trio of Western Albemarle athletes — Katrina Barredo, Sarah Tolman, and Madison Masloff.

Another highlight included Louisa County’s Brandy Brown, who won the long jump.
