William Monroe picks up steam, beats Manassas Park

All of the sudden, William Monroe has something going.

 

The Dragons came roaring out of their bye week Friday, beating Manassas Park 41-20 for their second straight victory in Monroe’s Northwestern District opener.

 

Much like against Madison, the Dragons employed Jaekwon Wayne largely as a runner and he produced with 121 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Zach Miller and Cameron Hayes complemented Wayne nicely in the ground attack, creating a three-headed monster with Miller notching 76 yards and two scores on 10 touches while Hayes had 96 yards on eight carries.

 

The Dragons rushed for 337 yards on the night. Alex Kinsey chipped in a rushing touchdown and also threw for 84 yards and a score while Steven Davis also had a touchdown on the ground. Wayne also caught a 12-yard touchdown on a swing pass early in the second quarter.

 

Manassas Park quarterback Andrew Kidd had 92 yards and a touchdown on the ground while throwing for 96 yards. A.J. Alaibo Simon-Ogan finished with 85 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

 

William Monroe will look to make it three in a row when they host Brentsville Friday.
