William Monroe moving to new Northwestern District

It was clear that William Monroe’s time in the Bull Run was coming to a close. Now Monroe knows exactly where they’re headed in the 2017-2018/2018-2019 redistricting cycle.

The VHSL voted to approve the Dragons’ move into the new 13-team Northwestern District, joining Brentsville, Culpeper, Fauquier, James Wood, John Handley, Kettle Run, Liberty-Bealeton, Manassas Park, Millbrook, Sherando, Skyline and Warren County.

The new district setup should improve travel times for Monroe and beef up the number of Group 3A squads that the Dragons will play versus the group of Group 2A teams they currently square off against in the Bull Run District. It seems likely that Monroe will only be required to play the other Group 3A squads in the Northwestern District while keeping some key cross-group rivalries like Madison County going and opening up some chances to play some squads that are closer to campus.

Nelson County’s appeal to be moved from the Group 2A Northern Region into the Centra Region was also approved. They’re staying in the Dogwood District.
