William Monroe locks up home playoff game

With another monster effort from Malique Shackelford, a healthy William Monroe squad that’s built some serious momentum to close the season beat Strasburg 38-7 on the road.

The win sealed up a home playoff game for the Dragons. They’ll host Petersburg in the Region 3A East sectionalized playoffs next week.

Shackelford rolled up 57 yards and four touchdowns on the ground on 19 carries, then went a near flawless 10-for-12 passing for 207 yards and a touchdown without any interceptions. He found Kam’ron McCain most often as McCain caught four balls for 117 yards. On the ground, Jaekwon Wayne broke loose for an 81-yard touchdown on his lone carry while Greg Sizemore had seven touches for 42 yards and Cameron Hayes rushed eight times for 73 yards.

The Dragons held a big edge in time of possession with a total time of 27:30 to Strasburg’s 18:47 and the Dragons finished with 461 yards of total offense.
