William Monroe football falls to Brentsville on the road

William Monroe’s football team was within striking distance after three quarters, down just six points. But after a wild fourth quarter, the Dragons found themselves on the wrong side of a 38-20 decision as Brentsville beat William Monroe in the Dragons’ season opener.

Monroe trailed just 20-14 going into the fourth thanks to a solid effort from Malique Shackleford who threw for 162 yards and two touchdowns, both to tight end Kyle Kruszewski.

Brentsville countered though with a strong ground game and pulled away down the stretch, with Dashan Denney piling up 161 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers on 19 touches.

Jordan Gray had eight catches for 81 yards for the Dragons while Jalen McKinnie rushed for 27 yards on 13 carries in his varsity debut.

Monroe will look to bounce back at home Friday against Broadway.
