Western’s Ward finally gets to ink letter of intent

Ten days after he was originally scheduled to officially agree to play football for Lehigh, Western Albemarle’s Tyler Ward finally did it. Snow postponed the signing of his national letter of intent from February 3rd all the way until Monday, but it’s a done deal now.

Ward helped to guide the Warriors to their best season since 2003 as they went 10-2 on the year and went as far as the Region II semifinals as both a receiver and defensive back. He finished with 47 catches for 646 yards and seven touchdowns at wideout and seven interceptions as a defensive back.

Lehigh began its pursuit of Ward in November, and after much persistence, was able to convince him commit verbally.

“After the season ended I was getting a phone call every week from them,” Ward said. “I had a visit up there for weekend and the campus was beautiful, the academics are amazing and the football facilities were really nice too. So that made the decision easy for me.”

Ward heads to Lehigh looking to hone his skills as a safety and is excited about the opportunities ahead of him.

“Obviously I’m going to have to work a lot harder,” Ward said. “The college game is a lot more difficult. But it’s a big relief to finally know where you’re going.”
