Western girls tennis’ Maddy Ix wins 100th career match as Warriors cruise

Maddy Ix reached 100 career combined match victories Thursday night as her Western Albemarle girls tennis team beat Orange County 8-1.

Ix is now 58-7 all-time in singles and 42-4 for her career in doubles, giving her a combined 100 match wins.

“It’s such a testament to her consistency and commitment to hard work and improving during her high school career,” Western coach Ellen Markowitz said. “I’m so proud that she achieved that milestone.”

Ix’s singles victory Thursday came against Orange’s Molly Gudka, with Ix rolling 10-1 to the victory. She and Hannah Kearns then combined to beat Gudka and Michaela Allen in doubles as part of the solid Western team victory. Cate Roesch had a huge win at the No. 6 spot in singles, rallying from down 7-6 to beat Sina Lefers of Orange 10-7.

The Warriors (2-0) take on Monticello on the road at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
