Albemarle’s baseball team picked up a solid road victory Tuesday night, edging Orange County 2-1 with Hornets’ ace Bradley Hanner on the mound. Hanner allowed just four hits and struck out 12 in a complete game effort.
The Patriots got a tremendous all-around performance from Scott Reid to overcome Hanner’s typically dominant performance. Reid scattered six hits, walked just one batter and allowed a single earned run while also notching one of the Patriots’ only four hits on the night. That was enough as Albemarle scored two runs in the sixth inning, one by Andrew Porter and the other by Jacob Nash. The Hornets answered with a Tre Smith RBI that plated Jeremy Schaar in the bottom half of the sixth, but couldn’t get the equalizer.
Smith and Hanner each went 2-for-3 at the plate on the night for Orange.
Western Albemarle girls tennis beats Powhatan
Western Albemarle’s girls tennis team beat Powhatan 8-1 Tuesday, with a hard fought 10-6 win over Sarah Inman leading the way. The Warriors are now 12-0 on the year, they’ll play Fluvanna at home Wednesday at 5 p.m.
