Western girls win indoor Conference 29 title, Fluvanna takes second

Averi Witt’s double individual title performance certainly gave Western Albemarle’s girls track team a big boost, but it was the Warriors incredible depth that carried the day.

The Warriors rolled to a Conference 29 indoor track title Wednesday, outpacing second place Fluvanna County 205-84.

Witt won the 1000-meter and 1600-meter races, followed closely in both by runner-up teammate Zoe Clay. Emma Ratcliffe gave Western a fourth in the 1600 as well.

The Warriors also posted winners in a slew of other events. Leah Ackerman won the shot put, Madison Masloff won the pole vault and Lydia Garner won the high jump. The Warriors’ Sarah Tolman and Katrina Barredo finished second and third behind Masloff in the pole vault.

Nichole Heon won the long jump and finished second in the 55-meters. Caroline Outlaw won the 500-meters and took third in the 55-hurdles. Savannah Wilson won the 300-meters, with teammates Katrine Berg and Jane Romness in third and fourth in that event. Jenna Hill was third in the 3200-meter.

Western’s relay teams won the 4×400 and 4×800 while also grabbing second in the 4×200.

Fluvanna County took second place in the girls Conference 29 meet, with Matasha Martin leading the way. Martin won the 55-meter dash and the 55-meter hurdles while also taking third in the high jump.

Saige Haney also picked up an event title, winning the 3200-meters. She also finished fourth in the 1600.

Kristen Cabrera was third in the 1000-meters while LaMaya Lacy was fourth in 55 hurdles and Hallie Reese was the runner-up in the shotput.

Fluvanna’s 4×800 team took second in that relay.

Monticello finished fifth as a team and had some solid individual outings, with Gena Lewis taking third in the 500-meter run, Laura Habermeyer finishing fourth in the 1000-meter, Kate Walz at second in the 3200-meters. The Mustangs’ 4×800 relay team took third.
