Western boys make it 10 in a row

Though Monticello put a quick scare into Western Albemarle Tuesday night when Terry Glover buried an early 3-pointer, the Warriors quickly recovered and rolled to a 61-34 victory over the Mustangs.

Western’s defensive effort turned things around as the Warriors held Monticello to just two points in the third quarter and 15 total in the second half as the Mustangs struggled to find the net.

The win runs Western’s winning streak to 10 in a row, a streak that stretches back to a December 12 loss to Albemarle High.

Travis Hester finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. The sophomore has started recently crashing the boards better, giving the Warriors another solid rebounder.

Dante Crawford got things going for Western (12-3, 7-1) with a first quarter steal and dunk, and finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Christian Pierce notched 12 points.

Stephen Schuler gave Western its defensive spark with four steals.

Western has a showdown with Charlottesville Friday that has major implications for the Jefferson District race.
