Western boys lacrosse drops Midlothian to win region

Western Albemarle’s boys lacrosse team already had a state tournament berth sewed up, but the Warriors made sure they kept their momentum going Friday night by beating Midlothian in the Region 4A South championship game in Richmond.
Luke Reilly and Holland Corbett both put together huge outings offensively, with Reilly going for five goals while Corbett finished with four goals on the night. Clark Sipe set the table for the Warriors throughout, posting four assists.
Sumner Corbett, Oliver Herndon Carter Elliott and John Carr Haden rounded out the scoring with a goal each.
The Warriors jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first quarter, and led 8-5 by halftime. After three quarters they were still up 10-8 and held on for the win.
Western held a 15-10 advantage on the face-off.
The Warriors will host a Group 4A state semifinal Tuesday in Crozet where they’ll take on the Region 4A North runner-up.
