Volleyball roundup 8.30.16: Western, Monticello grab wins

Former Albemarle standout Meg Carpenter’s picked up her first win as a head coach when her Monticello volleyball team dropped Culpeper Tuesday night, with the Mustangs beating Culpeper 25-13, 25-12 and 25-23 to wrap up the 3-0 victory.

 

Morgan Marshall finished with 24 service points, 15 assists and four aces. Amaya Gibson had three kills and 10 digs while Kendall Walin notched three kills and a block. Moneka Lawson had three kills and three blocks while Mariah Brown finished with four kills and two blocks. Haley Brown put together four kills and one block. Jewell Pugh finished with eight service points and 10 assists.

 

Monticello will try and grab the Mustangs’ second win of the season Thursday against Spotswood.

 

Western volleyball drops Waynesboro

 

Western Albemarle’s volleyball team got the season started with a win Tuesday night, beating Waynesboro 3-0, winning 25-10, 27-25 and 25-16.

 

The Warriors’ hard fought game two showed that despite working in some new faces, Western has some serious grit.

 

It was a complete team effort, with Courtney Berry leading the way with 12 kills and two blocks while Cassidy Wilson and Hailey McDaniel each had eight kills.

 

Sierra McChance, Abby Boitnott and Andrea Vial combined for 29 assists with McChance leading the way with 13 assists.

 

Alema Atuaia, Adriana Bland and Lilly Davis did the heavy lifting on defense for Western, putting together 20 digs between them. Atuaia and Bland also chipped in two aces while Lilly Davis also notched a pair of aces.

 

Orange County volleyball falls to Spotsylvania

 

Orange County fell 3-0 to Spotsylvania Tuesday in volleyball action, losing 25-22, 25-13 and 25-19 .

 

For Orange, Lindsey Colvin had seven service points and five digs while Laine Harrington had 10 digs and four kills and Danielle Mawyer had four blocks.
