Stage Complete: Blue Ridge blows past Fishburne

Business is about to pickup for Blue Ridge’s football team.

The state’s No.1-ranked squad in VISAA D2 beat Fishburne easily Saturday 49-0 and they’ll enter their next potentially three-game stretch of their season next week at 7-1 after a five-game win streak since the loss to Flint Hill in mid-September where opponents scored an average of just 4.2 points against the Barons.

Blue Ridge faces Benedictine in a showdown next week before starting the VISAA playoffs.

Big plays got the scoring done for the Barons against Fishburne. Blue Ridge jumped out early on the Caissons with a 94-yard catch and run by Michael Asher from Xavier Kane opening the scoring, followed by Sammy Fort scoring on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kane. Kane then connected with Cameron Carr for a 91-yard touchdown and a little more than two minutes later, Fort raced in from 91 yards out on a punt return to increase the lead 28-0. By halftime it was 42-0 after Kane hit Savion Helm for a 21-yard TD and Icesys Lewis found Katiso Tlelima for a three-yard touchdown.

Kane went a perfect 5-for-5 for 258 yards with four of those passes going for touchdowns. With Lewis throwing touchdowns on both his attempts, the Barons scored touchdowns on six of their seven total pass attempts on the day. Lewis also rushed for 111 yards and Marquis Roberts picked up 63 yards on his five carries.

Meanwhile, on defense, Aiden Britton and Spencer Glenn led the way in tackling again, with Britton making eight stops and Glenn making seven. Each had a tackle for a loss. Juan Mareco made two tackles for a loss and had a sack.
