STAB girls track and field takes third at VISAA states

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s girls track and field team put together a strong effort Saturday at the VISAA state track meet as the Saints finished third overall behind champion Norfolk Academy and runner-up St. Catherine’s.

Three individual state champions helped ignite that success, with Jayla Davis’ double in the 100-meters and long jump leading the way. Bri Tinsley came in second to Davis in the 100 and won the 200 title while Heather Paget-Brown took the top spot in the 400.

The Saints picked up a ton of points in the 100 as Anna Bennett made it a 1-2-3 sweep behind Davis and Tinsley. Clara Duffy helped out in the distance events with a sixth in the 1600 and a seventh in the 3200. Polly McNeely took fourth in the 300 hurdles and seventh in the 200. Javaneh Brown grabbed seventh in the 1600.

Sierra Smith bolstered the Saints in the field events with a state runner-up finish in the discus.

The Saints were also solid in the relays with a runner-up finish in the 4×100, a fourth place finish in the 4×400 and a fifth in the 4×800.
