STAB boys lacrosse beats nationally-ranked Avon Old Farms

St. Anne’s-Belfield boys lacrosse has never shied away from scheduling big-time teams from out-of-state during the early part of the Saints’ season. Whether it’s Maryland’s Boys Latin, Pennsylvania’s Malvern Prep or a range of other challenging opponents the last few years, STAB has regularly tested itself.

Friday afternoon was no exception as the Saints took on Connecticut’s Avon Old Farms and STAB prevailed, winning 14-8 at home against the No. 6-ranked squad in the country according to Inside Lacrosse’s high school poll.

Junior attackman Emmett Barger led the way for the Saints with a hat trick and two assists while also picking up four groundballs. Trent Moran also notched three goals while Javon Johnson and Vito Perriello each scored twice with Perriello registering an assist. Gunni Horridge, Sav Moore, Michael DiGiacomo and Michael McGraw each scored once with Horridge also posting an assist.

DiGiacomo and Thomas Harry each had three ground balls on defense while senior keeper Jeffrey Perkins allowed just eight goals on 21 shots.

The Saints will jump right back into action against Penn Charter Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Carr’s Hill Field at UVa.
