Spring Roundup 5.11.16: Western girls lacrosse, STAB baseball grab wins

Hanna Schuler had a five-goal night and Western Albemarle’s girls lacrosse team rolled on senior night 15-1 over Charlottesville.

 

The Warriors had eight different players score with Schuler’s five-goal, one-assist effort leading the way while Sammie Magargee filled the creator role for the night with four assists to go with her two goals.

 

Kate Snyder and Kira Repich each scored twice while senior defender Hannah Curry had a goal and two assists. Anne Patterson, Joie Funk and Bella Moriconi each scored once while Katherine Krese notched an assist.

 

STAB Baseball beats Fork Union

 

St. Anne’s-Belfield baseball’s bats woke up in a big way Tuesday night as the Saints beat Fork Union 14-2.

 

The onslaught included Nic Kent’s 3-for-5 night that included a double, Daniel Benner’s 3-for-3 outing that also included a double and Bobby Nicholson’s three-run home run in the sixth inning. Alex Markopoulos threw six innings and allowed just a pair of runs while also going 2-for-5 at the plate.

 

For Fork Union, Adam Hackenberg went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Zach Pace was 2-for-3 with a double and Tyler Simon went 2-for-2.

 

The two squads will square off again Friday at STAB at 7:30 p.m.

 

Albemarle boys lacrosse beats Monticello

 

Albemarle’s boys lacrosse team had seven different players score Tuesday night as the Patriots beat Monticello 12-4.

 

Albemarle built a 6-1 lead before halftime and stayed in control from there.

 

Ian Davis led the way for the Patriots with four goals and two assists while Lorenz Brown and Brogan Ezell each scored twice. Ethan Blundin had a goal and an assist. Brice Green, Justin Peck and Samuel Mallow each scored one goal. Joe Mallow chipped in an assist.

 

Albemarle keeper Nemo Lesesane had 10 saves while reserve Ryan Richardson notched three in relief.

 

For Monticello, Ben Landers posted 12 saves in the cage as Albemarle unleashed a barrage of 47 shots on the night. Jackson Petro, Andrew Vance, Mitchell Plantz and Alex Norris each scored goals. Austin Haverstrom and Paxton Jolly had an assist each.

 

Orange baseball beats Charlottesville

 

Orange County baseball managed to pick up a win with just three hits against Charlottesville Tuesday night as the Hornets edged the Black Knights 4-2.

 

Orange junior Caleb Ferraro struck out seven in five innings of work while Gregory Behm and Jeffrey Davies combined for the final two scoreless innings, striking out three CHS batters between them.

 

Christian Boswell knocked in two runs for the Hornets.

 

T.J. Hoylman threw five strong innings for the Black Knights, scattering three hits while giving up no earned runs as Charlottesville committed four critical errors. Hoylman struck out two and also had an RBI of his own at the plate.

 

William Monroe girls soccer falls to Clarke

 

William Monroe’s girls soccer team dropped a 4-3 decision to Clarke County Tuesday night. Rachel DeMasters scored two of the Dragons’ goals while Anna Baker had a goal of her own.
