Spring Roundup 5.10.16: Albemarle boys and girls soccer, Western softball win

 

Albemarle’s boys soccer squad knocked off Powhatan Monday night, picking up a 5-0 victory at home against the Indians.

Albemarle goalie Jake Gelnovatch stepped out of the net and on to the field and scored twice for the Patriots while Jack Pates also notched a pair of goals. Jordan Parks scored once for good measure.

Andrew Weber set up a pair of Albemarle goals to finish with two assists. Junior Rivera-Hernandez, Eilya Budugure and Arslan Kadirov also had assists.

Thomas Leckrone made three saves in net.

 

Albemarle girls soccer beats Powhatan

The Albemarle girls soccer team managed to edge out Powhatan 1-0 for a road win over the Indians.

Brooke Bauman scored the Patriots lone goal off a Sunny Gelnovatch assist. The Patriots pressured Powhatan all night and peppered the Indians with 25 shots on goal. Kylie Mailo again was strong in net for the Indians.

Albemarle is now 12-0-1 on the season.

 

Albemarle baseball snags win

Albemarle’s baseball team beat Charlottesville Monday night 19-6 for a solid victory.

For Albemarle, Ryan Porter had three hits while Mark Thomas and Jake Browning had two hits a piece. For Charlottesville, T.J. Hoylman had a solid night at the plate with a pair of hits.

Aaron Leathers got the victory for the Patriots on the mound.

 

Western softball beats Charlottesville

Western Albemarle’s softball team picked up a run-rule victory Monday night, beating Charlottesville 15-3.

Senior Jenny Belling started in the circle for the Warriors, but she did her most damage at the plate with a grand slam in the first inning and a triple later in the game. Tiana Knight finished out the final four innings for the Warriors in the circle.
