Spring Roundup 4.8.16: FUMA baseball rolls, Louisa softball rebounds, Goochland girls tennis wins, Madison baseball falls to Mason

Fork Union blows up against Fuqua

Behind a 15-run rally in the first two innings, the Blue Devils picked up a 20-10 win over Fuqua in six innings for their second win in three games this week after splitting with Trinity Episcopal earlier.

After Fork Union went up 13-7 after two innings, Fuqua was able to cut it to 13-10 headed to the bottom of the fifth. With a four run rally there and another three run spree in the sixth, the Blue Devils earned the run ruling.

Adam Hackenberg went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Hayden Miles was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Zach Pace went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. Brennan Rhodes finished 2-for-3 with four RBI. Brent Lowry was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI and picked up the win on the mound.

FUMA sits at 9-7 and gets a home-and-away with Benedictine with a road trip starting on Tuesday at 4:45 p.m.

Louisa County softball bounces back

The Lions had a tough pill to swallow after dropping a rivalry game 8-6 with Orange County when they led 6-0 in the fifth but against Chancellor, they got back to what they’ve been the previous few weeks. Louisa rolled to a 13-4 win with Hannah Fletcher pitching the first four innings and picking up the win. The Lions jump back into Jefferson District play with a key matchup with Powhatan on Tuesday at home at 6 p.m.

Madison baseball falls to Mason

After rolling past Clarke County earlier the week, the Mountaineers dropped their home meeting with George Mason 5-3. The Mustangs took a 3-0 lead but Madison cut it to 3-2. However, Mason picked up a pair of runs down the stretch and held off Madison for the win.

Goochland girls tennis hold off Steward

The Bulldogs fended off their private school opponent 5-4 to improve to 5-0 on the year. Goochland took four of the six singles matches and then had their third doubles team come up an 8-0 sweep to wrap up the win.
