Spring Roundup 4.22.16: Albemarle boys and girls soccer, STAB boys and girls lacrosse grab wins

Albemarle’s boys soccer team made quick work of Louisa Thursday night with an 8-0 win.

Brendan Moyers scored a pair of goals and notched an assist. Eliya Budugure, Brandon Mahon, Jake Gelnovatch, Michael Vaughn, Kevin Jacobson and Logan White scored goals. Robert Palma and Sergio Cardona each had two assists while Mahon and Logan White had one each. Matt Booth and Thomas Leckrone combined for three saves each.  

The Patriots face off against Western Albemarle at 4 p.m. Saturday in a big Jefferson District clash.

 

Albemarle girls soccer shuts out Louisa County

 

Albemarle’s girls soccer team beat Louisa County 8-0 Thursday night, scoring two goals in the first minute of the game.

Madison Kersey and Sunny Gelnovatch each had two goals. Leticia Frietas, Hannah Eiden and Katie Schnell scored a goal each. Gracie Williams and Katherine Brady each had three assists. Megan Schante also had an assist.

The Patriots face off against Western Albemarle at 6 p.m. Saturday night.

 

Louisa County softball run-rules Albemarle

 

Louisa County’s softball team knocked off Albemarle 11-0 in five innings Thursday night.

The Lions’ Taylor Robinson led the way with a complete game effort in the circle. She also went 2-for-2 with a home run. Sarah Sharpe went 2-for-3 at the plate while Amanda Kern went 2-for-2.

 

STAB girls lacrosse beats St. Catherine’s on the road

 

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s girls lacrosse team picked up a solid road victory over St. Catherine’s Thursday night, winning 11-5.

Annie Cory led the Saints with five goals. Caroline DiGiacomo notched a hat trick. McKenzie Maurer finished with a goal and three assists. Sarah Bauer scored a goal and had an assist. Elizabeth Carden had an assist while Carlin Maurer had a goal.

 

Brittany Schoeb had nine saves for the Saints.

 

STAB boys lacrosse blows past John Paul the Great

 

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s boys lacrosse team got rolling early and beat John Paul the Great Thursday afternoon 19-4.

The win gave the Saints a chance to get a rhythm before taking on St. Christopher’s in a critical matchup Friday at home.

Connor Schellenberger rang up five goals on just six shots while also assisting on two goals in an incredibly efficient effort by the freshman. Landon Greene also got going with a hat trick, scoring his three goals on four shots. As a team, the Saints only missed six shots on 25 attempts. Joe Robertson, Emmett Berger and Chris Woodfolk scored a goal each as well along with an array of STAB reserves who played extensively and scored.

Kareem Johnson, Magnus Gold and Robertson each had three grounds balls.

 

Fork Union baseball beats Hargrave

 

Fork Union’s baseball team withstood a big push from Hargrave late to hold on for a 6-4 victory over the Tigers.

Jacob Grabeel steadied the Blue Devils on the mound with a complete game effort, his fourth complete game and third victory of the season.

Adam Hackenberg and Jonathan Keaton gave Fork Union a big lift at the plate. Hackenberg and Keaton each went 2-for-4 with had two RBIs and a double. Zach Pace also went 2-for-4.

 

Fork Union lacrosse beats Powhatan

 

Fork Union’s lacrosse team knocked off Powhatan Thursday night, beating the Indians 9-6.

James Walker led the way with four goals and an assist as well as a pair of ground balls. Jon Walker also got going offensively with two goals, three assists and five ground balls.

Paxtin Powell made 16 saves on 22 shots. Michael Donahoe picked up seven ground balls and dished out an assist.  

 

Louisa baseball beats Albemarle

 

Louisa County’s baseball team rolled past Albemarle 7-1 Thursday night.

Wayne Butler had a two RBI double and Liam Grubbs picked up the win for Louisa on the mound. Nathan Toney had two hits for Albemarle.

 

Powhatan baseball shuts out Orange County

 

Powhatan baseball beat Orange County 4-0 Thursday night.

The Indians’ Logan Amiss went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI to lead the way. Trenton Tiller was solid on the mound with a complete game, eight-strikeout effort, scattering just three hits on the night.

Christian Boswell, Dalton Jobe and Justin Beaty each had hits for the Hornets
