Spring Roundup 4.20.16: Orange and FUMA baseball, Covenant girls soccer snag wins

Orange County’s Bradley Hanner is on a bit of a roll after striking out 19 in a no-hitter last week. The Hornets’ ace keeping that roll going plus a handful of errors by Western Albemarle were enough for Orange to overcome a solid night on the mound by Sam Hearn Tuesday and pick up a 2-0 victory over the Warriors.

Hanner won the pitcher’s duel with a two-hit, complete game effort where he struck out nine and surrendered five walks. He also scored one of the Hornets’ only two runs, with Dalton Jobe notching the other. Tre Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Hornets.

Smith’s two hits and Hanner’s one were the only hits Western’s Sam Hearn allowed in strong effort. Hearn didn’t allow a single earned run and struck out seven for the Warriors in six innings.

Chris McGahren and Matt Mandell had the Warriors’ only hits.
