Spring Roundup 4.2.16: Orange softball, FUMA baseball and AHS boys lacrosse win

Orange County’s softball team picked up a convincing win over Albemarle Friday night, rolling 13-2 over the Patriots.

For the Hornets, Lindsey Slaughter posted a 3-for-3 night at the plate while Tearra Goode finished 3-for-4. Hannah Jones ripped a 3-run homerun for the Hornets as well.

 

Albemarle boys lacrosse beats Osbourn Park

Albemarle’s boys lacrosse team had to put together a monster fourth quarter to storm past Osbourn Park Friday night.

The Patriots scored four fourth quarter goals to beat Osbourn Park 5-3 after entering the fourth down 2-1.

Ian Davis scored a pair of goals and notched an assist. Lorenz Brown scored twice for the Patriots and Brogan Ezell had a goal and an assist.

In the cage, Nemo Lesesane had five saves as the Albemarle defense held Osbourn Park to just eight shots on goal. The Yellow Jackets held a 38-31 advantage on ground balls that the Patriots had to overcome. Osbourn Park also got a monster performance from Matthew Wedel in the cage, where he made 12 stops.

 

Fork Union baseball beats Woodberry

With a solid six inning effort from Colin Wagner on the mound and an explosive seven-run seventh inning, Fork Union earned a split in this week’s series with an 8-1 victory over Woodberry Forest.

The Tigers beat the Blue Devils 1-0 earlier this week.

Wagner surrendered just one run in his six innings to pick up his second victory of the year. Hayden Miles did some serious damage at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Zach PAce and Jacob Grabeel both notched 2-for-4 outings.

For Woodberry, Calder Clay went 3-for-3 on the day.

Fork Union is now 7-6 on the year while Woodberry slips to 5-2. The Blue Devils will take on Trinity Episcopal Tuesday while the Tigers will lock up with STAB the same day.
