Spring Roundup 4.16.16: Monroe girls soccer, Western girls tennis pick up close wins

William Monroe’s girls soccer team picked up a key win over Clarke County, edging the Eagles 3-1.

Kayla Burton, Rachel DeMasters and Juliet Karnes each scored a goal for the Dragons.

Western girls tennis snags victory

With their usual fixture at No. 1 Maddy Ix not available as she took a college visit, Western Albemarle’s girls tennis squad faced one of its tallest tasks of the season Friday night as the Warriors took on traditional girls tennis power John Handley.

The Warriors prevailed, beating Handley 5-4 for a big victory. Western bounced back from losing all three doubles matches that the event opened with to win the top five spots on the singles ladder and wrap up the narrow win with Molly Servine closing out the match with an 8-5 win at No. 5 singles. Servine’s win was quickly followed by the Warriors rushing the court to celebrate a critical win in  tough test. Western moves to 9-0 on the season.
