Spring Roundup 4.13.16: Western girls lacrosse, Monroe girls soccer snag road victories

Western Albemarle’s girls lacrosse team picked up a road win over Patrick Henry Tuesday night, rolling 19-9.

 

Western got a big offensive boost from Sammie Magargee who scored five goals and dished out two assists. Hanna Schuler and Kira Repich each finished with four goals and an assist. Beyond that trio, the Warriors’ scoring was spread throughout the lineup.

 

Genevieve Russell scored a pair of goals while Kate Snyder, Hannah Plantz, Anne Patterson and Bella Moriconi had a goal each. Plantz finished with two assists as well while Moriconi notched one assist. Mady Starsia also chipped in a helper.

 

Western keeper Ana DiVita finished with five saves.

 

Monroe girls soccer beats Strasburg

 

William Monroe girls soccer squad rolled to a road victory Tuesday night, beating Strasburg 8-0. The Dragons got four goals each from Kayla Burton and Rachel DeMasters.

 

Western softball shuts out Charlottesville

 

With big nights from Lacey Pugh and Tiana Knight, Western softball rolled to a 14-0 victory over Charlottesville Tuesday night.

 

Pugh blasted a pair of triples and an inside-the-park home run while Knight posted a triple and made a diving scoop at second base in the fourth inning.

 

Fork Union falls to Benedictine

 

Fork Union’s baseball team fell to Benedictine on the road Tuesday despite a 2-for-3 day at the plate by Adam Hackenberg that included a pair of RBIs. Luke Wilson was also solid at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.

 

The Blue Devils scored a pair of late runs after trailing 9-1 going into the seventh.

 

For Benedictine, Will Simon went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Reece Yeargain went 2-for-5 with two doubles.

 

Albemarle boys lacrosse falls to St. Christopher’s

 

Albemarle’s boys lacrosse team fell to St. Christopher’s 17-2 on the road Tuesday.

 

Nathan Hann and Ian Davis had the Patriots’ lone goals. Ned Tazewell led the Saints in scoring with three goals and four assists. Emmett Hatcher had four goals while Teddy Gray had three goals and two assists.

 

Western girls tennis picks up a sweep

 

Western Albemarle girls tennis played big time tennis Tuesday night, rolling to a 9-0 sweep of Charlottesville.

Albemarle’s girls tennis team picked up a hard fought 8-1 victory over Monticello Tuesday, winning a number of 10-8 matches en route to the 8-1 final.
