Second half run sparks Fluvanna County boys past Turner Ashby

Fluvanna County’s boys basketball team needed to get into gear Wednesday night late against Turner Ashby in the third quarter and they did, with the Flucos reeling off a 16-2 run to take a lead they never relinquished in a hard-fought 40-31 victory, the Flucos first in the young season.

A.J. Gregory and Drew Pace did the heavy lifting for the Flucos with 10 points each and Fluvanna hit its free throws down the stretch, going 9-for-14 at the line.

Gregory, Pace and Keyshawn Fisher all hit big 3-pointers during the 16-2 run. Gregory hit two 3-pointers on the night.

Dashon Carter had seven points and Elijah Johnson notched five points. Walt Stribling had four second half points.

Fluvanna fell into a 15-12 hole at halftime and Turner Ashby extended that lead to 23-15 with 3:45 to play in the third quarter.

Fluvanna will take on William Monroe Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
