Region Soccer Roundup: Fluvanna boys lead brigade of region quarterfinal winners

Fluvanna County’s boys soccer team coasted past Brookville in the Region 3C quarterfinals Thursday night, earning a spot in the region semifinals where they’ll play for a state tournament berth on the road against Spotswood

 

Brandon Lucas followed up his hat trick in the Region 3C qualifier win over Monticello with two goals against the Bees. Emory Davis and Kamden Shephard each chipped in a goal and an assist. Elijah Bulllock had a pair of assists and Ethan Allbaugh rounded out the scoring with a goal.

 

The Flucos will head to top-seeded Spotswood, who beat Rockbridge 3-1 in the quarterfinals, Tuesday night with a state tournament berth on the line.

 

Albemarle girls soccer drops Patrick Henry

Albemarle’s girls soccer team got off to a solid start in the Region 5D tournament Thursday, rolling 5-0 past Patrick Henry-Roanoke in the region quarterfinals.

 

Cora Jillions led the way for the Patriots with a goal and two assists while Lauren MacDonald scored twice and Liz Yow notched a goal.

 

“It’s always nerverwracking in the first playoff game especially with young players,” said Albemarle coach Amy Sherrill. “But it was good to get a solid win, it helps us moving forward.”

 

The Patriots play Massaponax Tuesday in the Region 5D semifinals with a state tournament berth on the line.

 

Western Albemarle girls shutout Turner Ashby

Western girls soccer earned the No. 1 seed in Region 3C by winning the Jefferson District regular season crown.

 

That gives the two-time defending state champions a chance to play at home throughout the tournament and they took advantage Thursday, beating Turner Ashby 6-0.

 

The Warriors got a first half goal from Julia Berg and two more from Kayleigh Long to build a 3-0 lead before the break. In the second half, Katrine Berg scored twice and Sophia Benedetti also notched two goals to push the lead to 6-0.

 

The victory vaults the Warriors into the Region 3C semifinals where they’ll host Fluvanna County Tuesday with a state tournament berth on the line.

 

Monticello girls win on the road

After dropping the Region 3C qualifier game to Fluvanna County, Monticello’s girls soccer team is going to have to be road warriors in order to grab a spot in the state tournament. They got that process started the right way Thursday with a 4-0 victory on the road against Broadway in the Region 3C quarterfinals.

 

No. 7-seeded Monticello got goals from Kaitlyn Craddock, Cami Hoke, Hannah Anderson, and Kayla Burton in the victory, putting themselves just one game away from a state tournament berth.

 

They’ll travel to No. 3 Liberty-Bedford Tuesday at 6 p.m. with a state tournament bid on the line.

 

Charlottesville girls soccer shuts out Bassett

Stuck playing on the road to open the Region 4D playoffs in part because they play in one of the state’s toughest girls soccer districts, Charlottesville girls soccer made the road look easy b beating Bassett 5-0 Thursday night.

 

The No. 6-seeded Black Knights earn a shot at No. 2 seed Blacksburg on the road Tuesday in the region semifinals.

 

Elizabeth Burns scored twice for the Black Knights while Kaitlyn Lehnert, Margaret Neale and Maddy Packer had a goal each.

Fluvanna County girls beat Waynesboro 3-2 in the Region 3C quarterfinals at home, they’ll face Western Albemarle in Crozet in the region semifinals Tuesday.

 

Orange County girls soccer fell 2-1 to Harrisonburg, with a goal by Jenni Pugh for the Hornets.

 

Albemarle boys fell 2-0 to Harrisonburg, ending the Patriots’ Class 5 state title defense in the Region 5D quarterfinals.
