Iosefa Pua’auli led the Fork Union attack Friday with an incredible 321 yards and three touchdowns on the ground, but the Blue Devils came up just short, falling 50-42 to St. Christopher’s.
Fork Union rode a roller coaster in its Prep League opener with the Saints, leading by a touchdown at the end of the first quarter before St. Christopher’s reeled off 40 straight points to take a commanding lead.
The Blue Devils rallied with an explosion of their own in the fourth but came up just a little short, losing by eight despite Pua’auli ripping off touchdown runs of 75 and 65 yards.
The St. Christopher’s offense was the major reason that effort didn’t lead to a win as John Damgard threw for 419 yards and six touchdowns while going 28-for-48. His top target was Hayden Mitchell who hauled in 226 yards and two touchdowns on just seven catches.
Hayden Miles threw a pair of touchdowns for the Blue Devils at quarterback, going 6-for-11 for 72 yards.
R.C. Walbrook had an interception for the Blue Devils while Pua’auli’s six stops led FUMA’s tackling effort.
