Pair of former locals join UVa men’s hoops program as walk-ons

The UVa men’s hoops Twitter feed made it official yesterday after a few weeks of rumors circulating — former St. Anne’s-Belfield boys basketball standout Jeff Jones and Covenant alum Maleek Frazier are walking on to the UVa men’s hoops program.

The news comes a year after Jones averaged 13.6 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game for the Saints while earning second team All-Scrimmage Play honors. Jones showed off a lot of versatility last year for the Saints, and is a big guy at 6-foot-6. He played sort of a point forward type role last year at times so he’s got the ability to play a variety of positions in practice for Virginia which is where he’ll obviously begin his career.

Frazier lettered in basketball and baseball at Covenant and has served as a student manager for the UVa men’s program the last two seasons.

Along with Woodberry Forest’s Caid Kirven and Fork Union postgraduate product Thomas Rogers, Tony Bennett has given the end of the Cavaliers’ bench a ton of local flair now with the addition of Jones and Frazier.

Here’s a link to Jones’ bio and a linke to Frazier’s bio from the UVa website.
