Moving On: STAB boys basketball drops Collegiate to advance to Prep title game

St. Anne’s-Belfield boys basketball got its first chance to host the Prep League basketball tournament and the Saints didn’t disappoint in the opening round.

STAB cruised 73-52 past Collegiate Friday evening, leaning on John St. Germain’s 28 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals to snag a spot in the championship game Saturday against Trinity Episcopal, who cruised 64-41 over St. Christopher’s in the other semifinal.

STAB seized control at the outset, taking a 19-13 lead over Collegiate at the end of the first quarter. By halftime they’d expanded that lead slightly to 35-27 before blowing things open in the third quarter. Going into the fourth, STAB was up 56-35 and in the driver’s seat.

Justin Taylor also put up a solid performance with 14 points, four assists and four rebounds while Carter Lang had 13 points and five rebounds. Nick Reese posted 10 points and three boards.
