Morris pushes Monroe girls past Fluvanna

William Monroe’s girls basketball team is continuing to figure out how to play with star Sam Brunelle sidelined with a foot injury, but it certainly makes it easier when Hailey Morris simply lights it up from beyond the arc.

Morris buried seven 3-pointers Wednesday night as Monroe beat Fluvanna County 53-43 at home. Morris finished with 21 points on those seven strikes from beyond the arc while Martha Apple cleaned up inside with 13 points and nine rebounds. Bryonna Woofter also barely missed a double double with nine points and nine assists. Iyannah Carey and Jenna Velasquez each chipped in four points.

The Dragons, coming off a Holiday Tournament championship, will try and keep the momentum going Saturday in the Play for Preemies Showcase at Western Albemarle against Broadway. Fluvanna will try and bounce back fast as they take on Western Albemarle at home Friday night.
