Monticello girls lacrosse beats CHS in region quarters

Monticello’s girls lacrosse team is locked in right now, in part because Paige McGlothlin is completely locked in.

McGlothlin poured in nine goals for the second straight game Tuesday in a 17-7 win over Charlottesville as the top-seeded Mustangs cruised in the Class 4, Region A quarterfinals to move one win away from the state tournament.

The Mustangs face a rematch with Western Albemarle, who beat Monancan 19-7 in another quarterfinal Thursday. The winner in Thursday’s 6:15 region semifinal clash will advance to the region final and earns a state quarterfinal berth.

McGlothlin and Josie Mallory had to step up with the Mustangs (11-4) missing a trio of starters due to illness or injury and the tandem was up for the task. Mallory notched a hat trick and dished out two assists while McGlothlin added two assists to her nine goals. Tara Meissner had a goal and an assist for Monticello while Ari Oliver, Lexi Stadler, April Carter and Kendall Smith each scored once.

For Charlottesville, sophomore midfielders Maya Block and Chloe Boutin each scored two goals on the night.
