Monroe baseball tops Louisa

It’s an awfully different roster card that William Monroe coach Mike Maynard is submitting from the last two years, but the results look all the same so far. While Louisa County was able to keep Monroe within grasp until later, the Dragons pulled away late and posted a second straight run-rule shutout with a 10-0 victory in six innings.

“I’m just really surprised how well we’ve started,” said Monroe coach Mike Maynard. “We’re swinging the bats very well for being so early in the season. Right now we’re just going to keep trying to gel as a team.”

After Jack Morris and Trey Lamb combined for the shutout in Monroe’s season debut the night before against King George, this time around it was Dustin Knight and Ryan Leake doing the same against the Lions. Knight went four and two-third innnings for the win while Leake earned a save with his one and a third inning effort.

The game was knotted at 2-0 going into the fourth before Monroe put together a 4-run rally in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead. In the sixth, the Dragons got hot again and finished off the night with another 4-run spree.

At the plate for Monroe, Morris went 3 for 4 with a linedrive homerun and a double. Anthony Sneska was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Austin Batten also went 2 for 3 with two RBI.
