Monroe baseball slips past Fluvanna

One day after Fluvanna County decided that it would keep the Jefferson District’s baseball motto of “on any given night” true by beating Goochland in extra innings, the Flucos gave top ranked William Monroe a solid run for the money until the Greene Dragons rallied in the fourth to take the lead and hold on tightly for a 7-5 win.

With two runners on base in the top of the seventh, Monroe was forced to call upon Jordan Gentry to aquire the final out of the night and he did just that in his save opportunity. Gentry also had his way getting on base without a hit but still scoring a pair of runs.

Logan Forloines had a big game for the Dragons by going 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI and a pair of stolen bases. Cody Thacker was also 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI. Starting pitchter Lamar Jordan picked up with fourth win of the year to keep his record unblemished. Ryan Morris pitched in two and two-thirds innings of relief for a hold.

Fluvanna took a 3-0 lead after three innings, but thanks to a big fourth helped by a few errors, Monroe siezed the lead for good.

For the Flucos, Kyle Pillow was 2 for 3 with a run. Nolan Radcliff was also 2 for 3. Sam Turner was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Catcher Nick Algieri was 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI.

Fluvanna (3-9, 2-3) has a double header with Spotsylvania today.

Monroe (9-1, 5-0) plays at Orange County tonight at 7:30 p.m.
