Lacrosse roundup 5.2.17: Albemarle boys, Western and Monticello girls grab wins

Albemarle’s boys lacrosse team exploded early and held off Charlottesville late Tuesday night, winning 11-6 over the Black Knights.

Albemarle’s Silas Beers went for five goals and an assist for the Patriots, who reeled off five first quarter goals and built an 8-1 lead before halftime.

Connor Warner chipped in two goals and an assist. Lorenz Brown, Bobby Salazar, Samuel Mallow and Jacob Willis each had a goal. Joseph Balaban notched an assist.

Ryan Richardson stepped up in the cage with 13 saves.

Aidan Hockett and Hunter Randle each had two goals for the Black Knights and Ephraim Antwi had a goal and an assist. Ashton Wenzel had a goal. Zachary Russell had seven stops for CHS in the cage.

 

Monticello girls lacrosse shuts out Powhatan

With a five-goal, three-assist effort from Paige McGlothlin, Monticello rolled 21-0 over Powhatan Tuesday night.

Caleigh Smith also had a big night with three goals and three assists for the Mustangs while Josie Mallory dished out four assists and scored a goal. Ari Archer registered a hat trick and had an assist.

Monticello (9-3) faces Albemarle Tuesday.

 

Western Albemarle girls lacrosse cruises past Fluvanna

Western Albemarle tuned up for a big battle with rival Albemarle Friday night with a 16-2 victory over Fluvanna County.

Five different players scored two goals each for the Warriors, with Anne Patterson’s two goals and three assist leading the way. Audrey Russell had two goals and an assist while Reid Ferguson, Joie Funk and Hanna Schuler each scored twice.

Genevieve Russell, Bella Moriconi, Anna Fagerli, Ava DiVita, Marley Herring and Anna Kreienbaum each scored once. Mady Starsia chipped in an assist.

For Fluvanna, Natalie Hughes scored both goals while Fiona Kerr had four saves.
