Johnson, Armwood Blue Ridge football past Hargrave

With a complete effort from Malik Johnson and an explosive offensive outing by Justin Armwood, Blue Ridge picked up a 50-20 victory over Hargrave in the Barons’ season opener Friday night.

The Barons’ new signal-caller, Armwood was particularly explosive on the ground with 152 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Armwood also torched Hargrave for 203 yards through the air on 12-for-22 passing including a 15-yard touchdown to Johnson.

Tae Watts was also impressive on the ground with 96 yards on 13 touches.

Johnson had a receiving touchdown on offense from Armwood, but it was defense where he really shined, with two interceptions, a pair of sacks and four tackles.

Aaron Aldridge had a pair of catches for 40 yards, but it was Jemeil King who emerged as Armwood’s favorite target against the Tigers with five catches for 48 yards. Nazi Hopson finished with 75 yards through the air on just two catches.

Defensively, Afanna Offor had a 38-yard fumble return for a touchdown and four tackles while Jahlil Puryear led the Barons with eight total tackles.
