The Monticello volleyball team advanced past visiting Orange County in the Jefferson District quarterfinals on Thursday night. In three similar games, the Mustangs were able to sweep the Hornets 3-0, 25-17, 25-18, 25-16.
Christine Archer put up another double-digit kill performance by finishing the night with 11 kills in the win. Teammate Amanda Powell also had a quality night at setter by contributing 23 assists. Senior Kate Geldmacher chipped in with seven aces and libero Erica Watson was sound on defense with 13 digs.
The Mustangs will travel to Fluvanna County on Tuesday at a time yet to be determined.
In Crozet, the top seeded Western squad dispatched Charlottesville in straight sets, 25-13, 25-8, 25-10. Sarah Harper, Ana Asher, and Ali Miles each tallied five kills and Megan Adams dished out 14 assists. Kristen Pack and Marin Crowder each registered three aces. The Warriors will travel to Fluvanna County on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. semifinal match against the winner of the William Monroe/Louisa tilt.
