In the Fight: Covenant boys basketball advances to VIC title game

While it’s best for Covenant boys basketball when Jonas Sanker is just lighting it up on offense, it also works just fine for the Eagles when he’s getting to the line over and over again.

That was the formula Friday night as the Eagles beat Carlisle 54-44 to advance to the VIC Division 2 title game where they’ll play Eastern Mennonite for the third time this season at Roanoke College at 2 p.m.

Sanker finished with 23 points and 10 boards to go with four steals and three assists. He did a lot of his damage at the line, going 11-for-14 at the charity stripe. His efforts helped Covenant dig out of a 9-4 first quarter hole to take a 17-15 lead at the half. The Eagles slowly extended that lead in the second half to put away the Chiefs.

Nic Sanker finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Bryson Alley notched eight points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
